Prerna Completes Hat-Trick At Kalaburagi

Top seed and world No 476 Prerna Bhambri completed a hat-trick of wins at Kalaburagi adding the RGUHS ITF Kalaburagi Open to the KUDA ITF title she won last week and her first title here in 2012, defeating second seed Natasha Palha 6-0, 6-4 here on Saturday. The top seed was in supreme form, in the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences sponsored final, clinching the first set 6-0, breaking her opponent in the 1st, 3rd and 5th games.

The second set saw Palha put up a fight till the sixth game. Bhambri broke Palha in the third game but was broken in the fourth to get the games back on serve. Bhambri, as has been her style, lifted the level of her game and won three games on the trot, breaking Palha in the seventh game. Palha had three game points in her grip in the 8th game, but Bhambri fought had to hold serve.

The top seed then served out for the match and won in an hour and 14 minutes. Mr Sunil Agarwal, Inspector General of Police, North Eastern Karnataka region, gave away the awards. “I am really happy with the way I played and I am thrilled of having won three-titles in a row over here”, said Prerna after collecting her Trophy and Cheque for $1568.

The win also fetched Prerna 12 ITF points. “Gulbarga is a lucky place for me” said Prerna who has now won five ITF titles, three in a row this year and fourth in all including the National title. “I was nervous. I did not want to end up losing”, said Natasha after the final. “I only thought I wanted to win the final and ended up losing badly”, she added after collecting 7 points and a cheque for $980.
