Karnataka ended up with a rich haul of eight medals (1 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze) from the tennis discipline of the 36th National Games being held in Gujarat on Wednesday.
Sharmada Balu, the key performer for the State, injured her ankle during the Women's Singles final against Zeel Desai of Gujarat and was forced to concede her match and settle for silver.
Later she was supposed to play the final of the mixed doubles along with her partner SD Prajwal Dev but could not recover in time. Hence, the Karnataka duo had to concede the match to their Maharashtrian rivals Arjun Kadhe and Rutuja Bhosale.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Karnataka team comprising Adil Kalyanpur and SD Prajwal Dev won the Men’s doubles gold medal defeating host state's Dhruv H and Madhwin K 6-3, 6-4 in the final.
