Chennai lass Sanmitha Harini caused the biggest upset of the tournament when she ousted the top seed and local girl Thanu Vishwas in a dramatic fashion to reach the girls quarterfinals of the KSLTA-AITA U-12 CS 7 tennis tournament, an event on the Tattvam Junior Circuit at the KSLTA Courts here on Tuesday.

On a rain-marred day, Sanmitha was down three set points at 1-5 in the first set. The 11-year-old then made a superb comeback and won the next six games on a trot to take the set 7-5, thanks to her long rallies that seemed to tire her opponent. The second set saw the fancied player dominating the game. Sanmitha bounced back late in the set but lost 4-6. The final set completely belonged to the visitor as she not only played better but also took advantage of the many errors committed by Thanu to grab the decider 6-1.

It was an exodus of seeds in the boys category with local lad Arjun Soori sending the fourth seed Darsh Khedekar of Maharashtra in three sets 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 while Aryan Dhakshish routed sixth seed Ruhan Komandur 6-2, 6-2. A little later, Rithik Jeyant of Tamil Nadu defeated seventh seed Anurag Kallambella of Karnataka 6-3, 6-3.
